Newer sleeping pills

Three of the four newer sleeping pills (Ambien, Lunesta, and Sonata) work in the same way, by affecting a chemical in the brain called gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA. Rozerem works differently, affecting the receptor in the brain for the hormone melatonin. Ambien CR contains the same medicine as Ambien but stays active in the body for a longer period.
